Two weeks from Saturday or on August 3, SummerSlam 2024 is coming at you from the Cleveland Browns Stadium in Cleveland, OH. The capacity for the stadium is 67,431 for football games. According to WresteTix, the current setup fo SummerSlam has the capacity number at nearly 55,000. As of 6 days ago, the number of available tickets is around 7,500. I am sure that number has decreased after last night's Monday Night Raw telecast.
Rhea Ripley has challenged Women's World Heavyweight Champion Liv Morgan to a match for SummerSlam. Liv accepted the challenge. After Wrestlemania, Liv attacked then Champion Rhea Ripley resulting in a shoulder injury. Th severity of the injury caused Rhea to vacate the title.which "The Man" Becky Lymch won in a Women's Battle Royal on the April 22nd edition of Raw. Lynch would then lose the belt to Liv at King & Queen of the Ring on May 25th.
Now besides the injury and having the title that Rhea didn't lose, Liv is on a quest to take everything from Rhea. That includes "Dirty" Dom Mysterio who Rhea has ha an onscreen relationship with for almost 2 years. While Rhea was Rhea, Liv went after Dom with a gusto I haven't seen since every manager in the WWE wanted to Randy "Macho Man" Savage in 1985. A gaming system, hotel room card key, matches against his dad Rey, and many compromising situations later added extra fuel to this rivalry.
With that in mind, their match could maybe use some sort of stipulation. Winner gets the title, Loser gets to have Dom.......
Also, THE match everyone and their brother has been clamoring for Drew McIntyre vs C M Punk would be official if a returning "suspended" Drew would apologize to the 2 referees he attacked during the post show of last month's Money in the Bank. There still hasn't been any news if Punk will be cleared for this match after suffering a torn right triceps in January's Royal Rumble. So logically, if Punk isn't cleared yet, WWE needed an out until maybe next week when Punk will be at Raw in Green Bay, WI. That out would be the apology, which Drew refused to do. Based on his refusal, Raw GM Adam Pearce is still upholding Drew's suspension.
Of course, that didn't sit well with the Scottish Warrior who proceeded to attack the 2 referees and then went to attempt showing Adam what he thought of that decision. Before Drew could physically articulate that, Seth Rollins ran to the ring attacking Drew. Rollins would also like a pound of flesh from Punk since Punk not only screwed McIntyre out of the title at Money in the Bank, Seth was also screwed in the process. When McIntyre went to cash in his MITB briefcase the World Heavyweight Title, the match between reigning champ Damien Priest and Seth became a three way dance. When Punk assisted Priest in pinning McIntyre to retain, Seth can no longer challenge Priest for the title per match stipulation.
With this drama going on between these three, a number of people feel that the match at SummerSlam could be a 3 way dance. If Punk gets cleared to compete, I seriously doubt the match everyone wants to see is a 3 way dance between McIntyre, Rollins, and Punk. Maybe at Bash in Berlin August 31 or Bad Blood on October 5; the first match between McIntyre and Punk needs to be one on one. So how does Rollis fit into this?
I believe it will be one of two options. If Punk is cleared to compete and McIntyre's suspension is lifted, no ref in the back may want to work the match in fear of McIntyre. Rollins is your special guest referee. On the flip side, Punk is not cleared to compete. The WWE is not going to keep their #1 heel at home for the Biggest Event of the Summer. Rollins will plead with Pearce to lift the suspension and Rollins vs McIntyre occurs.
However this plays out, WWE has a story that can continue to captivate us for months if not a year.
