If you missed Friday Night SmackDown, Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes was looking for a challenger for his title at Bash in Berlin. Of course, Solo Sikoa and the Tonga Bros. stroll to ringside to persuade Cody into giving Solo a rematch because of The Original Tribal Chief Roman Reign's interference in their match at Summer Slam. Although Cody appreciated their thoughts and opinions on the subject, he graciously declined.
Solo and the WWE Tag Team Champions entered the ring to again present their argument for a rematch. Although verbally, Cody would have no problems going against the three of them in a verbal joust: a three on one beat down is another story.
Kevin Owens rushed to the ring to even the odds a little bit in Cody's favor. Once Cody and the Prizefighter clear the ring, Kevin slides under the ropes, goes and grabs two steel chairs, enters the ring again, and hands a chair to Cody. Solo and his minions think twice about re-entering the ring with the possibility of steel being whacked across their heads and retreat to the back.
What to do about a challenger for Cody though? Well Cody has an idea about that. Since Kevin has been there for him against the Bloodline and having Cody's back, the championship match in Berlin is offered to Kevin. The Prizefighter, although genuinely touched, declines the offer because he hasn't EARNED the right to challenge for the title. Although Cody and the crowd feel he deserves, Kevin wants to earn it. The champion understands where his compadre is coming from, but he is going to get GM Nick Aldis' blessing for the match anyways.
In the back, we are privy to the discussion between the three parties. Nick disagrees with Cody and says he is going to give the shot to Roman. That doesn't sit well with Kevin. He understands Roman held the title for 3 plus years, but Roman had people watching his back to insure he wouldn't lose the title. Roman hasn't earned the right to challenge for the title. If Nick wants to find folks who (gulp) deserve the shot, then Nick needs to look inside the locker room.
After listening to Kevin's passionate speech, Nick decides he doesn't need to go to the locker room. He sees the deserving person in front of him. Bash in Berlin for the Undisputed WWE Championship it is the American Nightmare Cody Rhodes defending against Kevin Owens.
Personally, I enjoyed Kevin's thoughts on EARNING a title shot, not deserving one. He isn't anymore entitled to the match than the other competitors in the locker room. The word deserve just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. People don't deserve i.e entitled to title shots, promotions, a diploma, degree GED, etc. Those are items which are earned through hard work, dedication, sacrifices, etc. Let's please stop the "You deserve it" chants and swith to "You have EARNED it".
