Heat is a 1986 action thriller starring the incomparable Burt Reynolds. Nicky (Nicholas or Mex) Escalante is your ex Special Forces ex mercenary type who is looking to live a quieter life. He dreams of saving enough money, in his estimation a hundred grand, to move to Italy and live a good life. Since the movie takes place in Las Vegas, our hero has a gambling addiction that keeps him from saving any money as he works being a "chaperone" , his term for bodyguard to various high rollers visiting Vegas.
A "working girl" friend of his, asks for his help. An out-of-town mob boss' son and his bodyguard brutally beat and raped her, dumping her on the side of a road to die. Mex knows if he helps her, he is essentially signing his own death warrant. Against his desire of self preservation, he decides to assist her in her revenge campaign; putting himself in the crosshairs of the local mob boss.
Your run of the mill 80's one man killing machine movie. Out to avenge his friend and keep himself breathing. The B story, although at times feels to be the A story, finds Mex being hired by an impish millionaire who wants to be taught how to be brave.
All in all, a nice, by the numbers, distraction. Heat is currently streaming on PLUTOTV.
