What a show Clash at the Castle was. Cody and A J leaving it all in the ring, the hometown team of Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn winning gold, Piper Niven having the best match of her WWE career (unfortunately in a losing effort), Gable announcing his resigning to WWE then losing to InterContinental Champ Sami Zayn, and Priest retaining the World Heavyweight Title against Drew McIntyre (with a little assistance from one C M Punk). We didn't have to wait until Raw for the fallout to begin.
If Drew doesn't find Punk first; Wade Barrett may want to re enter the ring and face Punk. Boy oh boy was Wade a bit miffed over Punk's actions in the main event. Coming to the ring to count Drew's pin on Priest after the original ref had been incapacitated, stopping the count at 2 when clearly Priest was done for, and then kicking McIntyre in the twigs and berries leading to Priest delivering South of Heaven on one good leg to pick up the 3 count. In Punk's defense, McIntyre put his hands on Punk and Punk was just responding in kind. How ticked was Wade? He called for Punk's firing.
I don't see that happening. As long as Punk has been wrestling, I am sure he has a valid referee's license laying around at home somewhere. The 2 count. As Punk said at the post show press conference, his tricep probably locked up a bit. Thankfully he will be heading to his doctors on Monday to have that looked at and hopefully be cleared to wrestle once again. He told the folks, he may be at SmackDown in Chicago Friday with some good news. As for Raw. He has permission to not be there for the afore mentioned doctor's appointment.
The best part of Punk's press conference comments came in the form of explaining his actions. He realizes that this is a contact sport. Injuries happen. Unlike Drew, he would not pray for someone to get injured in the ring. He would not be so gleeful that another wrestler would be injured and missing time while recovering. In a show of genuine concern, Punk wished for Drew's wife to have a quick recovery from her surgery and that gets well soon.
A word of warning to any folks attending a Punk press conference in the future. If you have a match idea, keep it to yourself. An individual stated that he believes Punk and Drew's first match should be a Hell In A Cell match. Punk's reaction? He told the individual that he was happy that person didn't run a wrestling company and to take "your fantasy booking bullshit" away.
As a James E Cornette or Eric Bischoff or Dutch Mantell or anyone who has booked a wrestling promotion, A Hell In A Cell is the blow off match. That is the match that ends the story, not begins the story. You need to start with a regular match where the good guy gets screwed in some way. Then you have another match built around tat and so forth until you reach the pinnacle of the story to have that match to end the feud and the good guy comes out triumphant. If you want to listen to someone who has been in the business talk about story, listen to James E's or Bischoff's or Mantell's podcasts. They do a great job of discussing the psychology of storytelling in wrestling.
With the grudges that Punk and McIntyre have, their upcoming matches are going to have everyone on the edge of their seats. This beef between te two of them is not going to end any time soon.
