Was trading Grant Williams the biggest offseason move by the Celtics and the deadline trade the Mavericks made to Charlotte of Grant Williams the X factor that for both teams to be in the NBA Finals this year? I believe so.
Okay. I know Boston did alright in the playoffs with Grant on their team. They just went to the finals once and lost the series to the Warriors. Steph is gonna be Steph. Trying to stop him over a 7 game series is a hard task for any team. What lost it for Boston then was their inability to not let Draymond Green get under their skin. They didn't have that veteran player with the ability to calm the team down, ignore Draymond's antics and play basketball.
Mavericks this year with Williams were so so. His yapping and locker room antics got under the skin of the Mavs, especially Luka. They trade Williams and go 5-0 after the trade. A team at mid point that no one was talking about as a Finals contender is now in the Finals.
As talented a player that Williams is, some introspection might do him well. Why were the Celtics willing to do the sign and trade? Why an eighth of the way through a 4 year contract were the Mavericks willing to trade me away? How are the 2 teams that tossed me aside the better for it? Hopefully he starts to just let his playing do the talking for him.
